Deep Dive Into Us

Speaking Topics

Our lives are full of people, yet Dr. Vivek Murthy, former US Surgeon General, declared an epidemic of loneliness in our country. How is it possible that in this age of technology and always being online, anyone would feel lonely? Explore what connection means to you, where and how you thrive connecting with others, and how you can help those around you connect more with intention and purpose. Relationships matter, and connections take practice, energy, and effort.

Connection

Powerful Conversations

Over the last few decades, we have lost the ability to connect and converse in thoughtful and meaningful conversations. Isolation and loneliness are societal issues. How can we intentionally strengthen human connection in our world? The answer may be as simple as conversations. Meaningful conversations are anything but simple. This talk will explore the idea that through intentional conversations, we can truly connect as human beings. Our ability to explore deep and meaningful concepts like trust, authenticity, and compassion starts with an understanding of ourselves. We need to reflect on our own beliefs, values, understandings, and experiences. With a level of self-understanding, we can truly listen to others. Then, by conversing, we can dive deeply into the conversation. The idea of self-examination and awareness, of jointly exploring where and how our perceptions formed, then exploring together, can allow for deeper relationships through meaningful conversations.
Ever been told “It’s not what you’re saying—it’s how you say it”? Or “You aren’t listening!” What about “You always—” and you wonder what people mean? When we respond with, “That’s just me, deal with it,” we get defensive and expose our own ignorance. What we need is to increase our self-awareness—yet where do we start? How do we practice it? We can all strive to increase our ability to recognize how we feel, hit pause on our natural reaction in the moment, consider if our go-to preference is best for those around us, and then choose to act. Join Kyle to take a good, long, in-depth look at yourself through self-awareness—you will accelerate your growth as a person, teammate, partner, and leader.

Self-Awareness

Ego & Power

Have you worked with someone who has gone too far with their ego? Best-selling author Ryan Holliday states, “Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, your worst enemy already lives inside you: your ego.” We want to be good, recognized, and acknowledged for the work we do, for who we are. Ego is always present, telling us that we are good, no, great, and nothing can stop us. We know what we are doing. We should be listened to. We have the position, the title, and the answers. Our ego builds us up to greatness. Is having an ego required for success and power? We see powerful, influential, and successful people with egos – how can having an ego always be bad? Join Kyle to explore the complexities of egos – in our work and in our lives.
What makes you engaged? What makes you happy? What makes you fulfilled? While happiness feels good for a moment, fulfillment is a lifelong journey of exploration, growth, and working with others. We explore and define aspects of what we seek to achieve individually and as teams to feel fulfillment throughout our lives. When you recognize that only a third of us are truly engaged in our work, when you experience a true sense of engagement in what you do, you find fulfillment, which results in joy – something you can help others feel.

Engagement, Fulfillment, and Joy

Trust and Mistakes

Trust and Mistakes explores the science of how we trust others, how others extend and withhold trust, and our biases for trust. Kyle explores the connection between our own trusting inhibitions and how we approach mistakes – that both we make and when we see others make them. We cover leader & staff member behaviors with mistakes – the good, pitfalls, and what we do naturally compared with what we could do. Building on multiple chapters in Powerful Conversations, the personal awareness and application of this knowledge are parts of the foundation for high-performing teams.

In a time when genuine connection feels increasingly rare, Powerful Conversations teaches us how to reconnect with those around us. Through engaging storytelling and practical advice, this book empowers you to lead genuinely and build stronger, more meaningful relationships.

Joseph Myers

Over the last 15 years, having both worked in and consulted to organizations I have often observed that the person with the greatest behavioral flexibility experiences the most success and influence in any system. This book offers tangible examples of how to build self awareness and increase your own behavioral flexibility so that you can deepen your interpersonal success and amplify your impact.

Clay Cousins

Powerful Conversations brings to light not only the need but the tools to address the number one deficiency we will face in the labor force for at least the next ten years- lack of people skills. Kyle takes us through his own journey professionally and personally of learning and implementing interpersonal skills in relationships in a way that is practical, applicable, and most of all human. I have had the privilege to learn from Kyle and benefit from his work that now makes up Powerful Conversations and look forward to using this gift for years to come. If you are one of the many in management disheartened by the lack of relational connection in the workforce, start having Powerful Conversations and be an agent of changing your culture.
